Easter weekend

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a good Easter weekend. Ours was certainly eventful. We had been planning for about a month now to go camping over the weekend but unfortunately it rained A LOT the week before which usually wouldn't be a big problem except that the place we were going camping was right on a river that happened to rise about 20 feet. It even swept away a few trucks! The couple days preceding the weekend were gorgeous so we thought we would improvise by taking our camping stuff and heading down to Bill and Vicki's house in Arkansas just in case we were able to find a dry camping spot (that's Ben's dad and step mom for those who don't know). We got there Thursday and it was still pretty muddy everywhere! But Maddie had been so excited to camp that we decided it would be fun to find a dry patch and pitch the tent for a night. About 30 yards from Bill and Vicki's house is a little pond (or a little puddle if you ask Maddie) so we found a dry spot of ground to camp. Maddie and Bill got on the tractor and leveled out the area for us and then Ben and Maddie went to work pitching the tent. We built a fire and roasted marshmallows and sang songs while Ben played his guitar. It was really fun! The dogs were running around and the frogs were so loud that it hurt our ears! Finally we snuggled up in our sleeping bags and went to bed. Then at about 4:00 in the morning I woke up and had to go to the bathroom really bad. But, it was really cold outside! So I laid there for about 30 minutes trying to go back to sleep but my bladder had other plans. Finally I heard Ben get up and unzip the tent. He had to go to the bathroom too. So I thought "I guess I'll get up and go if he is." Well, there is a string that comes from the side of the tent, is pulled taught, and staked into the ground. I had tripped over it about 3 times the night before (they are brown! of all colors!) so as I got up and walked around the tent I reminded myself to watch out for the string. I successfully bypassed it, went to the bathroom, and started heading back to the tent. Within that 30 seconds I had completely forgotten about that dumb string and on my way back to bed I ran right into it. Only this time I didn't stumble a little or trip a bit. I fell hard! So there I am at 4 in the morning, half asleep, freezing, sprawled out on the ground. Of course I started laughing but my throat was dry from the cold air so Ben thought I was crying but I was laughing so hard that I couldn't talk to tell him that I wasn't crying at all. It was crazy! So the moral of the story is: either ingrain in your brain to watch out for those strings at all times or paint them bright orange so they can be seen! Overall the "camping trip" was a good one. Maddie had a lot of fun! Saturday night we headed out for a ride on the White River. This river rose about 18 feet from all the rain so it was interesting to see all the mud, and damage, and picnic tables in the trees. Yes, picnic tables were in the trees! Easter Sunday came and we all got up to get dressed for church. The night before Lily had been trying to throw up all night long. She usually has a pretty weak stomach and sometimes she eats something she shouldn't and it upsets her stomach for a few days so I wasn't too worried about it until we were about to walk out the door for church and she jumped off the chair she was sitting on and pooped a puddle of blood. Just blood, nothing else. I was freaking out! Plus it was Sunday, and Easter! What were we gonna do?! We called the emergency number for the vet we used while we lived in Arkansas and they wanted her to come in. I dropped Ben and Maddie off at church and went straight there. They gave her a couple shots and decided to watch her through the night. The vet thought it was most probable that she got into some poison somewhere and when I talked to Vicki about it later she said that the man across the street sets out poison for the armadillos that tear up his yard. Then I remembered that I had had to call her back from that house a couple times in the past few days. I had a hard time sleeping that night. I was sure she wasn't going to make it but when I called the vet the next morning they said she was fine! She had eaten and kept everything down so we went and picked her up. =) Sunday afternoon we had a little Easter dinner at Bill and Vicki's and then hunted for eggs!
So that was our Easter weekend! Hope you all enjoyed yours just as much! Now it's time for spring break! Woohoo! And in 13 days Maddie and I are flying to Utah to see my family! We can't wait! =)
xoxo
